Why Would She Lie To Us?

What say you?

None of them tell the whole truth, as being honest is a bar to that kind of political office. Some of them, of course, are more unabashed than others about their lies.

Mauigirl said...

It's all part of her "experience" - and she wants to hype it as much as she can. Sadly, she isn't smart enough to realize that with the Internet and other sources, anyone can find out the truth now so there is no point in lying.

Hey, you calling my candidate a liar? She didn't lie; she "mis-spoke" :)

She's turned into such a caricature and a laughingstock, I think she's toast. I'm on the mailing list of one of those fitness gurus. He never talks about politics, but in yesterday's e-mail he was poking fun at this exact incident. When even nonpolitical people are making fun of her, that's a bad sign for her and a good sign for everybody else.

What mauigirl said..

it was to go to her 'exerpience' arguement, that 'tested and ready' on 'day one' bullshit. Dodging sniper fire and ducking heads in a warzone she thought would help her against McCain...until the taped rolled of the greeting ceremony on the tarmack.

Some people still think it's the 1990's or even the 1980's, that things can be said and no one will really bother to check them out.

It used to be a real pain in the ass to have to go to the library and look through microfiche of old newspapers or cull the archived video footage.

Now more and more things are getting databased including video. A producer just has to search Hillary Clinton Bosnia - low and behold it pops up that that very network covered the visit and has video footage of it.

This isn't the 1950's where things can be said and no one can verify them.

Now even campaign stops are being routinely recorded if not by the media and the campaign itself then by attendees.

Remember George Allen's Macaca momment?

Recording devices are everywhere. Footage is archived. Articles are accessible via Google. For those that can afford it there is lexus/nexus. Big Brother is here.

Most of this stuff can be found without having to leave one's desk anymore.

I really think Hillary thought no one would question her let alone rack up the video tape.

But hey, at least she admitted the mistake. Although, some of her surrogates have been making the media rounds trying to claim what she said was in fact true since she did have to go to the cockpit and others sat on their bulletproof vests while the C-130 (or whatever it was) did a corkscrew evasive maneurver landing.

The reality is that Hillary put her First Lady out there as Co-Presidency experience. She opened herself up to questioning.

Hillary Clinton is a hyperachiever, a hard worker and driven competitor. Right now, she's all caught up in the primary race.

You've probably seen kids, when they're really worn out, acting silly and starting to roughhouse, then they suddenly start fighting for real or lapse into crying. It's a case of being too tired and too full of themselves.

I think Hillary is at the middle-aged adult's version of that kind of thing now, in the context of a presidential race. It loosened her tongue to grossly exaggerate — not for the first time — her role in foreign affairs, including the Tusla visit.

Ronald Reagan on several occasions spoke as if he had served in the military in World War II. He never served in the military. Yet, in a couple of his statements, he made it sound as if he had done or experienced things that happened to characters he had played in that period. The writer of the article I read on these incidents thought Reagan at times confused roles he had played with his own past life, as opposed to deliberately lying.

I'm not making excuses for Clinton. What she did was wrong and all the hubbub about it has probably hurt her politically.

However, as an exercise in fairness, maybe we should all ask ourselves, if we were in her situation, after all these months of hard campaigning, still behind and the path ahead so uncertain, plus being very, very tired much of the time, would you or I exaggerate or make something up? I'd like to think I wouldn't, but having never been in that situation, I'm not sure I know.

Do you?

It's just as if we are going through what we went through with Bush and his lies only to see a video of the truth.

LET'S TALK said...

Mauigirl, as I mention above and as you have pointed out. There's video as to what really happened.

LET'S TALK said...

Tom Harper, it has started to worry me because at this point I see no way for Clinton to win. If she ends up with the nomination, I will support her but I know that others wnat.

LET'S TALK said...

Great point PoliShifter, too bad she didn't realize this as well.

LET'S TALK said...

I like the logic of your comment S.W. Anderson. I'll just say that ther will be times when she get the 3:00 call and she will be tired in so many ways. What she she do?

Will she end up with lies and unwise moves?

TomCat said...

I think it reflects her desperation. She need to portray herself as heroic. Since the truth would not accomplish it, she embellished, to put it kindly.

Remember when people were so fed up, they'd Vote for Snoopy or Pat Paulson?

I'd Vote for Pat Paulson if I knew he'd Win!

Sadly, all one can do these days is hold your nose and Vote against the Republican and Hope 4 the Best! ; (

LET'S TALK said...

Yes tomcat that was put kindly.

LET'S TALK said...

Well hopfully Coffee Messiah the best will come from this.

Distributorcap said...

she is so desperate to win she will say and do anything to get this

if i didnt loath her already i would just for that.......

this 'generation' of politicians still hasnt caught on to the fact that every move they make and every word they say is forever captured and analyzed.......

is that good or bad --who knows -- but the endless info world is something they will have to deal with

LET'S TALK said...

You are so right Distributorcap, the endless info world is something they will have to deal with.

This should have been brought out more during the Bush era.

And honestly I seem to remember another Clinton getting on television and telling all of us a lie and then this one covered for him.
Things were not so great during the Clinton years, they opened the door for what came after that and only in retrospect make the Clinton years seem so great.
It's time to stop the yoyo and do something new.
We've had our primary here and Georgia and it was a very solid decision that Georgia wants Obama.
The decision to toss the Republicans will be made in November, but Georgians were decidedly clear on the Democratic choice.

LET'S TALK said...

Great points 1138, I recall that because of Clinton NAFTA and a lot of changes has come back to bite us.

As for as this Demoractic nominee goes, I really think that Hillary should step aside, but I also understand how her followers feel.

For the good of the party she should not be so set on becomng President and make way for a Democratic win by Obama against McCain.

Again, I'm not trying to be a surrogate for Clinton. I, too, would welcome it if she were to bow out and throw her support to Obama. She has run hard and run him a close second, but she is in second place and appears sure to remain in second place as far as pledged delegates and the popular vote is concerned.

That said, presidents' time and effort are carefully managed. They probably get jet lagged after long trips like the rest of us, but they are almost never run ragged in the job the way they were campaigning for the job.

So, I don't see a President Hillary Clinton flubbing a 3 a.m. call because she's so worn out.

As far as making a bad decision, whoever we elect will make some bad decisisions, some mistakes, some slips of the tongue.

And as sure as the past is prologue, whoever gets it will lie at times. Fifty years ago, one of the best qualified, most decent and well respected men on the planet, Dwight Eisenhower, lied through his teeth after the U-2 spy plane Francis Gary Powers was flying over the Soviet Union was shot down, and Powers' was captured. Ike said he knew nothing about it and the the U.S. had nothing to do with deliberately overflying Soviet airspace.

Powers didn't have to be waterboarded to say that was all untrue, that his flight was part of a regular CIA intelligence-gathering program.

Next thing, Soviet Premier Nikita Kruschev went ballistic in public, calling Ike a liar and the U.S. an aggressor. Then, he scuttled a long-planned summit meeting in Geneva where it had been hoped some limitations on the proliferation of nuclear weapons could be agreed on.

That was a major, major embarrassment to Eisenhower and the U.S. A real loss of face and credibility. And the crazy thing about it is that as soon as he lied, everyone knew Ike was telling a whopper that no one would believe.

Then, there was "I am Not a Crook" Nixon, lying about Watergate. Ronald Reagan lied about the Iran-Contras illegal weapons sales to fund an illegal, secret war. So did his V.P., George H.W. Bush. George W. Bush and his V.P. are two of the all-time champions at lying in high office. They've lied so much about so many really important things that three-fourths of the U.S. population doesn't believe much of anything they say.

Keep in mind, whether Obama, Clinton, or God forbid, McCain, wins, we will have elected a fallible human being, with his/her own quirks and weak moments. We always have and always will. Saints just don't devote their time to running for president.

LET'S TALK said...

Well said S.W. Anderson, I concur.

imnsho--
we all exaggerate, lie, cheat and pretend.
I know I do -- and, no doubt, everyone who will read these words does, too.

her main crime was forgetting that, when she threw her hat in the ring, she opened up every word she says to scrutiny at the microscopic level.
and that is the #1 crime when you're running for potus.

add the fact that she comes across as a **gasp!** woman who is **gasp!** ambitious and it's the double kiss of death.

LET'S TALK said...

two crows, when I first heard that Hillary was running for President, I was happy and gave my support to her.

I could not understand the hate that was being spewed by others.

I do not support either candidate now but will support whomever the Democratic candidate we have.

I think now that Hillary staying in the race at this point makes things hard if Obama is the candidate.

Thanks for catching the spam Tomcat!

I think you are correct Snave.

I'm so disappointed in her. I had a much higher opinion of her before her campaign went negative (in South Carolina.) Why would she lie? I'm afraid for her, it's all about getting elected - AND IF SHE CAN'T GET ELECTED - it's all about making sure Obama can't, either.

In_Flight said...

Oh god. They all tell tales, but it seems as though are hidden sexism rears its ugly head when we put man against woman.

Obama sat in a church for years where all sorts of bigotry spewed from the front. His response? : "I never heard anything racial."

LET'S TALK said...

Candance it's like another Bush with the lies. That's what I don't like.

LET'S TALK said...

phil_in_ny, I don't think that is what his speech said about his church when he finally addressed it.

These are diferent kinds of lies. I refer you to Hillary lies again

In_Flight said...

I couldn't disagree more. A lie is a lie, why are you making acceptions?

I admire your passion for Obama, but really, you can't sideline the obvious.

LET'S TALK said...

The lies of Hillary far exceeds what Obama said later that he recalled during times of service and didn't agree with what was stated.

In_Flight said...

I don't mean to be rude LT, so we disagree. May the best qualified person win.

I'll support no matter who gets the nomination.

LET'S TALK said...

phil_in_ny, I respect what you are saying, so please do not take it any other way.

I like the fact that we can respectfully agree to disagree.

I've been called all sorts of things and lost visits from other bloggers because I decided to not have a dog in this fight but at some point all the lies brought me off the fence and I started to call things as I saw them.

I will vote for whomever gets the nomination for the Democratic party be it Clinton or Obama.

Anonymous said...

This tall tale by Hillary was very embarrassing. I will also vote for her if she gets the nomination, but I doubt that she will.

It's difficult for me to believe that she just had a lapse. This was such an incredibly stupid fairy tale... oh my..

LET'S TALK said...

Anajo/Anijo/JoAnn, you know I'm thankful to have your voice expressed on my site.

I love it that you will, just as I vote for whomever is the nominee for the Democratic party and now days that's saying a lot.
