Why Bother?

Why even bother to complain about what President Bush has done to this country or even the war in Iraq, when we are set on allowing John McCain to become President.

How is it that we sit around computers for days on end and talked about the lives and what this President has put this country through. We are ready once again to do the same thing if our candidate does not get the nominee for President.

How do we justify Clinton or Obama being so wrong for this country when we have spent the past seven years with Bush.

I hear how this war has been wrong and the lives it has cost and the money that has been wasted to fuel it was wrong.

Yet I hear and see everyday the followers of Clinton and Obama making statements that they would not vote for President if their candidate is not the nominee. Just what are we doing and how in the world can we fix this mistake that we are about to make for our country?

I would consider voting for Obama, but there would be no point in voting for Hillary. Her voting record is pretty solidly Republican, and I don't believe for a minute she has any intention of withdrawing any signficant number of troops.

Well, I admit I am biased. I prefer Obama to Hillary.

I don't think Hillary can beat McCain. I too don't see much difference between McCain and Hillary's foreign policy.

That said, it seems Hillary is being forced to inch more to the left. She is revising her stance on Iraq to say she would work to get the troops out in two years. Last summer it was before the end of her first term.

So, if she can somehow pull out the nomination (a near mathematical impossibility unless the super delegates go her way) and continues to move to the left on Iraq I would much prefer her to McCain.

A lot can happen between now and the convention.

Early on I had stated I would support whoever the democratic nominee was. As time went on and Hillary employed the kitchen sink strategy not just hurting Obama's chances, but her own as well, I stated I would not vote for Hillary if she was the nominee.

However, just the scarey thought of Sentaor Bomb Bomb becoming President may be enough to make me hold my nose and vote for Hillary.

Which one would destroy the U.S. less? My guess is Hillary.

I still think Obama will be the nominee though and will win the Presidency. God Damn America preacher or not.

Time will tell.

LET'S TALK said...

Thomaslb, this is what I am saying. If she is the nominee and you do not give her your vote, you are allowing McCain to win possibly the election and we will see four more years of the same.

LET'S TALK said...

PoliShifter, for whatever reason you don't like Clinton, I think it's great that you can still vote for her if she becomes the nominee.

PoliShifter said...

Let's Talk, there are A LOT of reasons but it's not worth rehashing old arguments.

I still think we need a viable third party, a third party that Represents The People and not corporations.

Don't know if it will ever happen but I think we are closer to getting there.

LET'S TALK said...

I agree PoliShifter, it's just that the two party representation that we have want allow it and the people want accept it as well.

Why, I do not know but I do realize that this party system has become two strong and too much alike in some ways to do anything.

Money is the root to all power in this country and world. It's also what runs our two party system.

These last 7 plus years have been so disastrous for America, it's absolutely crucial that another Republican doesn't get into the White House. (And Congress should have as few Republicans as possible.)

I prefer Obama over Hillary, but I'll grit my teeth and vote for Hillary if she's the nominee.

In 2000 the people who voted for Nader (I wasn't one of them!) had a point. At the time it really seemed like there wasn't much difference between the 2 parties. Gore did more flipflopping than anybody I'd ever seen, and Bush was pretending to be a moderate.

But now we've learned (hopefully!). The Republican Party has mutated into the worst disaster in our country's recent history. They all need to be voted out -- fired! -- until they start practicing their own slogans about "individual freedom" and "limited government."

LET'S TALK said...

I agree Tom Harper and I hope that Democrats come together and put out as many Republicans out of a job as possible, starting with the President.

Candace said...

I couldn't agree more - our focus must be on gaining control of the White House and the Congress - not fighting each other. (Thanks a hell of a lot, Hillary.)

LET'S TALK said...

Candance, For the sake of America the Democrats must take the White House and the Congress.

Mauigirl said...

Well said, LT. I keep hearing how Hillary is Republican Lite but she clearly has many more progressive views than McCain. The comparison is not even close.

LET'S TALK said...

Mauigirl, I will vote for whomever gets the nomination from the Democratic party because I do not want to see McCain in the White House.

et I hear and see everyday the followers of Clinton and Obama making statements that they would not vote for President if their candidate is not the nominee.

What utter nonsense! Realpolitik people! An Obama presidency or a Clinton presidency will be a far cry from a McCain presidency, and any who says differently is 'cutting off their nose to spite their face'.

Get over it.

Fran said...

For the record ***NOT*** set on having McCain for president. In fact, will fight like hell to prevent it.

Anyone who thinks that a vote for Hill is the same as a vote for McCavein is just plain nucking futs (twist intended.) Instead of spouting the same old lines, look at her overall voting record. I don't like her either, but she is a DAMN sight better than the alternative. That can be verified easily by looking at her record, and then McCavein's.

LET'S TALK said...

Kvatch, I know that you have been to sites where you hear that: If Obama is the candidate I will not vote for President or if Clinton is the nominee I will not vote for President.

This is crazy to me, I am willing to support Clinton or Obama and will vote for whomever is the nominee.

LET'S TALK said...

Fran, I don't know what is going on. I can only hope that the Democrats support whomever wins and becomes the nominee.

LET'S TALK said...

JollyRoger, I only dislike the way Hillary is playing very nasty politics right now but I will support either Clinton or Obama.

two crows said...

somehow, I don't see EITHER Clinton OR Obama, when told by a reporter that 80% of the American people disagree with the war in Iraq [or anything else, for that matter], uttering the immortal word of the Dick [Cheney]: . . . . . "So?"

and, just as significantly, I CAN see McCain at least thinking it -- tho he might be smart enough to keep the comment to himself.

for that reason alone, I would vote for the Democrat -- whoever that may end up being.

two crows said...

one more thing--
after posting my comment above I went on and read the other comments below.

I agree about a 3rd [or 4th, or 5th] party being good for the country.
BUT NOT NOW!!!
the risks are just too great now.

right NOW, THIS MINUTE, a 3rd party candidate could be no more than a spoiler and hand the country over to McCain -- and that we simply cannot afford.

let's get our house back in order, secure the Supreme Court, etc., etc., first.
THEN we can talk about making major changes to the current system.

LET'S TALK said...

I agree twocrows that right now we need to get the Democratic party back together and I just do not know if that is possible. I hope that it is for the sake of America.

Just maybe at some point, when this country is back to where it needs to be. We as Americans can somehow put a 3rd or 4th party together that really cares and runs this country for the people.

Is there any chance I could get you to join the Blogswarm Against Theocracy? Your Christian perspective would undoubtedly add much to it.

i just cannot stand Hillary for many reasons -- but i will vote for her if i have to

1. mccain would be a disaster
2. two words -- SUPREME COURT. stevens and ginsberg are barely hanging on. the thought of mccain appointing another roberts or worse, another scalia....

I agree LT. I will support the democratic nominee no matter who it is.

This whole primary season has ripped us apart though. I've lost a lot of blogging colleagues due to the fact that I support hillary. How messed up is that? I've even received email threats from Obama supporters.

LET'S TALK said...

JollyRoger, thanks for the invite. It would have to be under my Religious site Let's Talk God, if you don't know about that site you are welcome to take a look.

LET'S TALK said...

Distributorcap, I dont like the nasty ways Hillary is playing and the lies that she has stated.

I will reference what I said because I know some will question or aske for such: Hillary 1, Hillary 2, Hillary 3 and Hillary4.

I have no dog in this fight and I will willingly vote for whomever is the Democratic nominee.

LET'S TALK said...

phil_in_ny, I have no bones to pick about your support for Hillary, I've even thought at times that she was the best nominee.

After seeing how Hillary lies and play nasty just to become President, just makes me wonder about her.

I don't really like some things about Obama as well.

At one point I did a post on Edwards and lost a lot of friends. I was ready to do an unfriendly post on Obama and Hillary as well and thought that it would be best not to go through that again because it was wrost than what I had done on Edwards.

Whomever gets the nod gets my vote be it Hillary or Obama.

to this statement I can respond with 2 words that trump all others:
SUPREME COURT.
if for no other reason, we must see that a Democrat makes it to the White House this time around.

LET'S TALK said...

tow crows I wish that others felt this way that you and I feel.

As you very well know that there's a lot of bloggers saying this about Obama and Clinton and really meaning it.

I just hope all comes to their senses before it's too late.

Right on target. This is how Bush managed to get the job...twice.

And it will probably be the reason McCain will get it in November; while we all stand around wondering how the heck it happened.

another major point is this:
like their personalities -- don't like their personalities -- _it_doesn't_matter_.

the fact is-- from every speech I've heard, from everything I've read, from every talking-head I've heard on the radio and tv, their POLICIES as they've outlined em are virtually IDENTICAL. look em up, if you don't believe me. . . .

I'm not passionate about either one, to tell the absolute truth.
otoh, I AM passionate about McCain -- we've GOT to keep that guy out of the White House, folks!

I agree with TWo Crows. SUPREME COURT.

From everything that you say, Larry, I can see that we are both on the same page. I'm not all too pleased with Hillary, but if she is the nominee I'll vote for her.

However, her chances of being the nominee are very slim.

People should stop judging Obama based on what his minister said. If I was running for something I would hate to see myself being judged by what a friend of mine thinks.

Hiliry does not do research. She has proved this with the lies she has told. She is sort of shoot first see what was shot afterwords. We could end up worst off if she makes office. What is she thinking? I cannot see her wining.

We do need a democrat in office this time and I was shocked to see that Bush won last time. I hope people pay attention and remember this when the next Bush run for office maybe in the next election.
