Was HMO Suppose To Be The Best Care For America ?

The term "HMO" was developed in the early 1970s as part of a Nixon Administration strategy to promote the growth of prepaid plans as a way of improving the capacity and efficiency of the nation's health system.

Insurance companies make as much money for their stock holders and their company as possible, was this how it was suppose to be?

Michael Moore on Hardball talks about the HMO and show part of a clip from Sicko about how Nixon started this manage care.

Conservative Question To Michael Moore

HMO's are horrible for people and is one reasons PPO's were created.

Healthcare in America is horrible, and Bush will veto a bill to give 9 million poor children healthcare.

If only he faced the same fate as those children!

How true Larry, if only he faces the same fate.

i cannot stomach tweety for even a minute..but waiting for Olberman i saw this snotty young white male question moore with such disrespect, i wanted to smack em..and there was tweety drooling oh yeah thats the libertarian view - har har. The young rethuglican was a disrepectful little neo con brown shirt.
Compassionate Conservatives..yeah right. You are on Your own. And if you are unfortunate - well it must be your fault. These people are soo clueless. And between the Vetos and the callousness, love of money and profit. ..well it makes me wish something would hit em hard enough to enable them to feel some empathy for rest of the world. Michael Moore is one strong guy. He has always been one of my heros. And i know for a fact, he is a very generous person. The concentrated efforts to smear him, silence him make me sick.

The profit model is a horrible way to run a healthcare enterprise.

We have to return to the original CONCEPT of institutions like County Hospitals. We also have to get the present insurance model out of healthcare entirely. Making big money off the misery of others is, ....sick. Not only is it morally repugnant, but insurance as it exists is geared towards piling on as much bureaucracy as possible-there is simply no incentive for private insurance to trim administrative costs and every reason to keep the bloat as big as they possibly can.

It is telling that Medicare is rated the most efficient healthcare plan in America. Medicare also incinerates all of the Chimpleton talking points about "socialized" medicine.

That's IT!!!

I've been trying for YEARS to explain that people like Chimpy are taught from birth that they are above the flotsam. These people believe that if you can't pay a medical bill or you get ruined by an illness, it's YOUR fault. This is the simplest, most basic plank of their entire philosophy of life, and that's never going to change. Bluebloods and democratic Governments are an oil and water mix. While it is true that some of them "see the light," most of them never do.

jollyroger said it best--health care should not be a profit-based business, at least not entirely. I have no problem with supplemental insurance being made available (and I'm sure there will still be plenty of profit to go around), but the current system is a disgrace.
The number one goal of schools isn't to make the school money.
The number one goal of a police department isn't to make the cops richer.
The number one goal of a fire department isn't to put the least amount of money possible into putting out selected fires.
The number one goal of HMOs is protecting the bottom line.
Sad.

It's a shame those 9 million children won't get the health care that they need.

Thank you for posting that!

BTW, how do you resize the YouTube videos like you do?

proudprogressive, I'm with you, I get so tired of hearing conservatives trying to smear him and their not even concerned with how their party has run this country into the ground.

They can't see the health care that we have that makes the insurance companies, and pharmaceutical companies very rich.

It sickens me to hear this mess. Will they ever wake up?

pissed off patricia that is so very true.

JollyRoger you should have written this post very well stated opinions/comment and true.

Political Realm, that is great logic you speak.

Suzie-Q (S-Q didn't we just pay for this President to be treated last Saturday?

Some President we have.

Thank you all for the comments, I really enjoyed reading your opinions.

There was an excellent letter to the editor in our local paper, comparing modern American health coverage to the way fire departments used to be run. Way back when, everybody had to pay the local fire department for a large medallion that they would display prominently in front of their home. If their property caught on fire, the fire dept. would come and look for that medallion. If you had one, they'd put the fire out. If you didn't have one, your house burned.

This "socialized" fire protection that we have now is an improvement over the old version; and this is the same change we need to make with health coverage.

For America sake and our children, there's got to be a change for the better.
