Bush To House and Senate, Just Wait!

See Original Story

President Bush, facing new pressure to start bringing U.S. troops home from Iraq, said Tuesday he won't consider it until hearing a fresh assessment from his top commander there this fall.

"That's what the American people expect. They expect for military people to come back and tell us how the military operations are going," Bush said. "And that's the way I'm going to play it as commander in chief."

Gen. David Petraeus is due in September to present a progress report to Congress on the effects of the recently completed troop buildup in Iraq. Frustration in Congress among leaders of both parties has led to calls for changes in strategy before then.

"We see little evidence of reconciliation and little progress toward meeting the benchmarks laid out by the president," said McCain. A U.S. withdrawal, he said, would increase "the potential for genocide, wider war, spiraling oil prices and the perception of strategic American defeat."

McCain's comments contrasted with those of other Republican senators such as Lamar Alexander of Tennessee who said Tuesday that Bush "needs a new strategy" that is supported by more Americans.

Bush has already started to make excuses for the failed surge by stating, "We just started. We got all the troops there a couple of weeks ago," Bush told the Greater Cleveland Partnership, a coalition of Northeast Ohio companies.

Should we give this surge more time to work or do we start to bring our troops home. What say you?

Should we give this surge more time? Oh, right, like that's going to work.

Personally, I'd rather see the money we waste in this illegal war used to create healthcare for all people who reside in the United States.

Exactly Divajood! I would like to see us start withdrawaling our troops from Iraq, NOW, but I don't think it will happen anytime soon, because the "Commander Guy" could careless what the American people want and Congress is too chickenshit to defund the war.

Chertoff claims the U.S will have a terrotist attack this summer as he can "feel it in his gut."

The same gut that has left thousands still homeless from Katrina.

The simple fact of the matter is, every "new" thing that Chimpy announces in Iraq is simply another round of the same thing they've been doing since 2003.

We know what the outcome is. We've seen it plenty of times already.

divajood, I would agree with you . This surge happens every year.

That money could be used for healthcare and a lot of other things right rhere in America.

leo, I think the "Commander Guy" gets his way at the end simply because he really don't care about the American people.

LET'S TALK said...

larry, Chertoff guts need to take a vacation. How dare he say such a thing, causing fear once again.

JollyRoger, you are so right, even the surge is what we saw last year. The outcome as you say turns out the same.

What a waste of billions of dollars.

Hummm...Chertoff says we're going to be attacked just as Bush's approval sinks to 26%...could there be a connection? I wonder.

As far as your question goes, BRING THEM HOME -- ALL OF THEM!

LET'S TALK said...

OK Lizzy remember I'll get another chance to tag you for something!

What in God's name does monkeyman know about what the American people want? Of course we should come home, Iraq leadership has sat on their butts for four years and let us do the work and now they whine about danger to them if we leave?

The surge was just another ploy by the chimpster to bide time. When all is said and done, in Jan 2009 he wants us to still be there so the next sucker can be the one to pull us out. Plus it gives them more time for their contractors and companies to suck money out of us.

I think you've got something here with the healthcare issue.
Chertoff - intestinal fortitude?

It's a good thing no one has been holding their breath.

For perspectives sake, if you had a job and had any kind of problem, would they accept this kind of "hurry up and wait?"

If you were in any kind of relationship, would the other party continue to accept: Please be patient and wait another 2 years, over and above the 5 you've already been put through?

Next.....

Right, the surge will work if we just give it more time. Oh, and that leftwing media needs to start reporting some of the good news from Iraq :)

We've been quagmired in Iraq for almost 4-1/2 years and everything we've tried has had the same negative result. By now Bush is pretty much saying "maybe if I stick my finger in that socket again, I won't get the same shock I got the first 427 times I stuck my finger in there."

Who Hijacked Our Country

Here is what the big war monger Bush did today:

Although his biting sarcasm in response to unfriendly questions can make members of the White House press corps grumble under their breath, President Bush got a different reaction from a 13-year-old girl who asked him about immigration during a forum in Ohio.

The Washington Times reports Jessica Hackerd was left in tears after Bush gave her a wry "yeah, thanks" in response to her query, drawing laughter from the crowd of 400 in Brecksville, Ohio Tuesday. Bush immediately began to backpedal when he saw the reaction from Hackerd, who told the Times she was crying because she is very shy and was nervous questioning the president.

George W Bush: Child Hater!

I agree Bob, this President is trying to keep the troops in Iraq until he is out of office.

kip152 I agree with divajood also; "the money we waste in this illegal war used to create healthcare for all people who reside in the United States."

Coffee Messiah, I love your perspectives.

Tom Harper, this President can't understand what America is feeling because he's not an average citizen... He's the Decider guy.

Larry. that sounds shocking! I guess I'll catch it on the news today.

Not only does Bush hate children now, he also hates the retarded!

According to the former Surgeon General (who has been making valid complaints to the media during the last couple of days about Bu$hCo), the administration pressured the SG to not talk publicly about Special Olympics and they denied his request to travel to speak on behalf of Special Olympics in Japan. When he asked why it was a problem, they basically told him it's because "The other side supports that stuff."

So, let me get this right... If you support the rights of the mentally retarded and if you support Special Olympics, you're automatically a "liberal" and therefore you aid and abet the enemy? How on Earth can they politicize something as basic as Special Olympics and our special population? SHAME ON THEM!!!

I smell a post coming over at my site, right now.

As for troop withdrawals, I tend to think we have had long enough to prop up the weak Iraqi government, we are hearing they are meeting few if any of their "benchmarks", and they might not ever meet them. Let's get out of there, and let's raze what has been built of that Great Monument to Stupidity (the monstrous Vatican-style "embassy") on the way out.

I say BRING THEM HOME. No more blood for oil. No more of our sons and daughters sacrificed, no more peoples' slaughtered, no more destruction of a nation for American hegemony and global empire.
