Moqtada al-Sadr Urges U.S. Withdrawal while a nation is mad and confused about the scrapping withdrawal timelines on funding for the Iraq war.
A lot of Democrats voted for this Congress to get us out of Iraq. The bill was signed at Camp David, the presidential retreat in Maryland. I guess Bush is now on vacation.
"I think the president's policy is going to begin to unravel now," said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who expressed disappointment that the bill did not force an end to U.S. participation in the conflict.
Democrats are really hot under the collar on this one, but so are some Republicans.
What say you?

I say the dems should have borrowed a page from Chimpy and stayed the course.
Passing that bill was an act of political cowardice, contrary to what America wants and expects. And Americans from all stripes are rightly labeling it so.
This now seems to be a touchy subject with a lot of Democrats feeling differntly about what happen during this Bill.
Greetings,
I don't think the dems are gong to do much more than the reps. It is all for votes. The dems were goint to secure our border...noda yet....just like the reps.
Sam
I have a new one up.
Welcome back The Correct View, I just made a comment at your site.
Nothing is what the Republicans did, is that what you are saying about the Democrats?
I think Pelosi and Reid are so self engaged with their new found fame, that they thought they could sell out the people for profit, and none would be the wiser.
Time to replace them as well.
Pelosi disappointed? She was the one backing down on their stance. They voted for the new bill without their proposed amendments.
I don't think they actually care about getting the troops out of Iraq, but would rather con the American people into thinking that they give a shit about ending the war.
Interesting opinion Larry, what profits are they selling the people out for?
Welcome to Let's Talk Benjamin Solah: For what purpose would Pelosi, Reid, and both Houses of Democrats con the American people into thinking that they care about ending the war?
Perhaps Reid and Pelosi sold out the soldiers and the people for those Corporate dollars from Halliburton, or Blackwater or Exxon or those in the defense industry that have made a financial killing on this war.
That is a possibility Larry that they sold out the soldiers and the people for those Corporate dollars from Halliburton, or Blackwater or Exxon or those in the defense industry...I cant argue with you on that.
What makes you think that the Democrats actually did that?
It's true that they could not over-ride the President's veto, their just was not enough of them to do that.
They could have sent the same bill back to the President and then wait for the PR about the Democrats not wanting to fund the Troops.
Remember their PR worked so well after 9/11 from the conservative talk shows, media, radio and papers... even now today you still have those that think there are WMD and terrorist were in Iraq and they were some how part responsible for 9/11.
There was going to be no override of the veto. I want to see the actual counts and names of those that voted for and against the supplemental though.
I'm disappointed, not so much with the Democrats in Congress by and large as I am with anyone Republican or Democrat that doesn't start intensive investigations in the multitudes of crimes committed.
Pelosi has to put impeachment back on the table Gonzo first then Cheney and then Bush.
There's a price to pay, and it's dime to deliver the tab.
We're on Iran's doorstep rattling the sabre's for God's sake.
De authorize the authority and start ratcheting things down.
I'm afraid the Democrats in Congress are starting to go into the same mode they did prior to Iraq - and the world can't survive it this time.
The Presidential directives issued on May 8th are absolutely frightening.
A lot of folks are very confused by what just happened because they don't understand than a slim majority in Congress only lets you set agenda - it doesn't give you the absolute control the Republicans had.
I can understand how people are mad about this bill but it's shocking how confused they are about the process and exactly what our House could and couldn't do with the amount of Democrats in office. As you said they can only "set agenda - it doesn't give them the absolute control the Republicans had."
I think Pelosi and Reid are so self engaged with their new found fame, that they thought they could sell out the people for profit, and none would be the wiser.
Time to replace them as well.
I totally agree with this. I think Barbara Boxer would make an absolutely wonderful Senate leader, and I'd like to see Rangel in the Speaker position. Some people who still remember that they represent US and not their lobbyists.
I still believe September will show America just where this Congress stands and what must be done to replace those with no heart for the fight.
The Dems need to stop worrying about the 30 second attack ad that will surely come around election time (for not funding the troops), and start doing what they promised they would do - End the war.
I think we need more Democrats in both House's to force this President's hand. We have a nut in office, not willing to listen to anything about stopping his war.
If we are to expect a complete stop to this war , then let's get this man out of office, now!
OK, again without the typos.. lol Sorry.
Thankfully Bush spends so much time on vacation, or else we'd be in more trouble.. ;-)
Seriously, yes, the Dems shouldn't have wimped out. But politics will never be the thing that creates a Utopia here, until we can all better understand ourselves at a more personal level, which is why I generally steer clear of it.
You might like Ken Grandlund's blog, 'Common Sense' in my sidebar. Ken's more of an independant, and almost ran for election in Nov 2006 for California. He's a good man. :-)
Thanks he comment Chandira, I make mistakes and errors all the time , there was no need to delete your first statement here.
I am not looking for how you spell, but what you say... I love the comment from others, so please feel free to say whatever please's you and do not worry about the grammar.
I will check out Ken Grandlund's blog, 'Common Sense' in my sidebar.
I say it's time to throw the whole freakin bunch out and start over and if you're a republican or a democrat you're not eligible. The whole damn government has gone to hell, because there is nobody in the government that really represents us, or America. There are Republicans and there are Democrats, and they both have agendas that don't necessarily have a thing to do with America's best interest. They have their petty little war going on between them, and the jockeying for votes, and OUR rights won't interfere with that.
We need representatives that have these goals, the betterment of THIS country, the support of our constitution and most importantly, the desire to REPRESENT THE PEOPLE. You won't get that out of ANY of these clowns.
Let's start with getting this President out first, you know demand our House to impeach him.
I agree, the POTUS and his band of thieves and liars needs to be removed by whatever legal means possible.
The Democrats were expected to show some spine, and they have instead let America down, knuckling under to Lord Almighty Dumbya Chimptardius by not sticking to their demand for a timetable for troop withdrawal. There is usually a heavy price to be paid for blinking first in such a high-stakes stare-down. I hope the GOP doesn't spin this too much to their advantage...
Right now the GOP are to busy trying to stay away from Bush and the many scadal's coming out almost daily.
