Greensburg, Kansas & The National Guard

WHAT SAY YOU?

The Kansas National Guard has 40 soldiers and 12 airmen on duty providing security. Approximately 64 soldiers of the 891st Engineer Battalion, headquartered in Iola, will arrive in Greensburg Monday morning, May 7, along with chainsaws and light engineering equipment to assist with debris removal.

The Civil Air Patrol has been conducting reconnaissance flights along the tornado’s path to search for possible tornado victims, stranded motorists and residents.

The Kansas Highway Patrol has 16 troopers on duty in the Greensburg area manning checkpoints, security patrols and search and rescue operations. The KHP communications van and three personnel are also in Greensburg assisting with communications.

What if the next city has a population of 150,000... I was so down hearted after this that I posted "field of gold" by Sting live 1993, the song has nothing to do with this but it was what I wanted to hear. To listen go to Let's Talk About It.

So, more Red Cross volunteers than National Guard...

But Tony Snow says it's fine so it must be fine, as the majority of the National Guard is needed to chase ghosts in Iraq. Good that we have priorities.

Here is another hidden cost of Bush's little war. The American people are at the bottom of Bush's list. Shame on this administration!

people in the sun: Priorities for the American people went out when this man became our President.

funkytown fighter: I sure wish someone would put him in his place and out of the White House.

kitchen window woman: I can only agree with you in sadness, the hidden cost of Bush's war is coming back to hurt the American people.

Sebelius did an excellent job pointing out one of the effects of this war that many don't realize.

LET'S TALK said...

Snow and the Administration say it's not the war. They are blaming Sebelius for not asking for help from the government.

In the 1970s there was a joke that New York City should declare war on the United States, lose, and then they'd qualify for the federal assistance that Pres. Ford kept refusing. Maybe that's what each locality in the U.S. will have to do to get any sort of notice from our "leaders." Tell Dumbya that there might be a turrist hiding somewhere in Greensburg, Kansas, and they'll get all the help they'll need.

Americans are only useful to Chimpy so long as he has a need for their votes. Otherwise they're just as fungible as Rummy's GIs.

Nothing surprising here at all.

Tom this is becoming a mess, Snow and this Administration is really trying to blame Gov. Sebelius.

Maybe if oil was involved or some of his rich friends, then their would be a priority.

JollyRoger just what are we to this man besides a vote and a body to do his dealings in Iraq?

I'm surprised when this man should have gotten everything together after Katrina... just what kind of a President do we have here anyway?

Let's talk to Impeach Shrub the "mad man" call, Jack Murtha at (202)225-2065 and ask him to sign Dennis Kucinich's bill. I got the info from another blogger. Check out Ziems Views she is on fire!

Sad and so damned preventable. With hurricane season starting in just a couple of weeks down here, this is not making any of us feel very good about the situation.

More volunteers than government personnel helping out? That's just what the Republicans want. They think many of our national problems can be solved through volunteerism, and you can be sure the administration will be doing a lot of praising and mentioning of the volunteers at every turn re. the Kansas tornado situation.

The administration doesn't seem to think that something like responding to a hurricane or tornado should be their problem, or their responsibility. They will surely be downplaying their role, and you know they will attempt to shift responsibility to local governments and agencies. They claim to like "states' rights" so much that they will give us in the 50 states the right to solve major disaster problems ourselves.

POP, there are a lot of us in other parts of the country worried about whether or not the federal government will try to help with disasters or not. In your area, the danger seems greater... lots of us will be thinking about you in Florida as long as Dick 'n' Dumbya are at the wheel.

This problem should be put on the back of the National Guards... that is one of the reason each State has them.

No thanks to our leader, who seems to think that most equipment and bodies needed in their own States are in Iraq with his war.

Sebelius is right, the National Guard has equipment that came out of a scrap iron pile, now the National Guard Mechanics are loosing a battle with repairs.

Thanks

Looks like it's not a government of the people, not a government by the people, and now not even for the people.
Looks like it's become a government against the people.
