Libby Sentence Commuted

"I respect the jury’s verdict. But I have concluded that the prison sentence given to Mr. Libby is excessive. Therefore, I am commuting the portion of Mr. Libby’s sentence that required him to spend thirty months in prison."

This from the man America voted into office as the President of the United States. Bush said his action still "leaves in place a harsh punishment for Mr. Libby."

The president left intact a $250,000 fine and two years' probation for his conviction of lying and obstructing justice in a probe into the leak of a CIA operative's identity. The former operative, Valerie Plame, contends the White House was trying to discredit her husband, a critic of Bush's Iraq policy.

former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani applauded President Bush's decision to commute the prison sentence of I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby.

Fred Thompson said "I am very happy for Scooter Libby. I know that this is a great relief to him, his wife and children. While for a long time I have urged a pardon for Scooter, I respect the President’s decision. This will allow a good American, who has done a lot for his country, to resume his life." This is the same guy that voted to impeach Clinton.

Maybe now Reid and Pelosi will consider the will of the people and impeach this President.

Bush lets a convicted felon and known committer of treason off scott free.

He spends the weekend with his advisors pondering this question:

President Bush is holding private meetings "over sodas and sparkling water" in which he asks trusted advisers -- "Why does the rest of the world seem to hate America? Or is it just me they hate?"

He either has no clue, or just doesn't care.

I don't think he cares what we thing.

Just another demonstration of the "values" the Chimpletons hold dear.

They'd have loved Al Capone, who was a fervent believer in their kind of "values."

I'm really not surprised by this at all. Plus, Libby won't have to pay the fine, because his defense fund will cover it. He's got a website to raise money.

I can't believe I'd ever hear myself quoting Rosie O'Donnell, but seriously, "What do you have to do to get impeached in this country?"

It's been obvious for sometime to me that Bush could care less what the American people think of anything he or his administration do. I don't know about the rest of you, but I say enough is enough. I agree with Joe Biden when he encourages us to flood the White House phone lines with protests. I called and e-mailed the president as well as contacting my congressional reps. If enough of us stand up, perhaps we could take our government back from the power crazed. Great post!

baa, Fred Thompson with the trophy wife raising money for Scooter Libby...it's enough to make me puke.

Hey, this whole Scooter libby thing would make a good Law&Order episode...perhaps Fred is doing research.

Just what does Libby know that has Bush, Cheney, and right wing sycophants jumping through hoops for him?

Is The United States An Empire?

Definition of an Empire:

A nation-state that dominates other nation-states and exhibits one or more of the following characteristics:

1) Exploits resources from the lands it dominates

2) Consumes large quantities of resources in amounts that are disproportionate to the size of its population relative to those of other nations

3) Maintain a large military that enforces its policies when more subtle measures fail

4) Spreads its language, literature, art, and various aspects of its culture throughout its sphere of influence

5) Taxes not just its own citizens, but also people in other countries

6) Imposes its own currency on the lands under its control

divajood, you are correct, this guy will have it made as for as money for his defence.

I guess his pardon will come just before Bush leaves office.

David Caspian we need more people in office willing to impeach this guy.

Leo you are right, but this guy just don't care. Bush could care less what the average American thinks, say or feel.

PoliShifter, I guess we know where Thompson stands... I don't think I can watch his show anymore.

lizzy, Read and Pelosi should have started this when the House first took over.

I think we can just forget that and wait or demand they give up their leadership to someone who will do the job.

Bush had to let Scooter walk or Scooter might squeak about Bush and Cheney in prison!

It's my belief if Fitz were able to put pressure on Scooter, the whole bunch would be behind bars!

LET'S TALK said...

larry we might be more than an Empire right now. We might be the devine state with what we are trying to doto other countries.

Q, they all need to be behind bars, what a joke we have become on the back of a President who care not for anyone but his own little pack.

I'm in shock. Some of the quotes in your post show that Republicans have compassion and empathy for criminals. They're concerned about Libby's well-being, his family, etc. How touching. And these are the same people who insist on throwing millions of nonviolent people in jail for victimless crimes like marijuana use.

Do these people have any idea how inconsistent -- maybe schizophrenic is the word -- they are?

tom harper, we have some Administration and the Republicans have some party looking out for their own and to screwing the average American.

The sad thing is most Republicans don't understand that, some Americans don't care and the rest of us, go ignored by the Administration.

mentarch, I guess we have a lot of incompetents going around in this Administration and the Republican party.
